Planets are divided as Shubh (benefice) and Paapa (malefic) Grah, this is also known as Natural benefices and Natural malefics. The Nature of plants shown below.

Moon, Jupiter, Mercury and Venus are Natural benefic.
Sun, Mars, Saturn, Rahu, and Ketu are Natural malefic.

But in a Horoscope, based on the Lagna planets can act and benefic and malefic. In a Horoscope benefices are

1. Lord of first house except moon
2. Lord of Kendra’s 4,7,11 when they are not natural benefices
3. Lord of Trikon’s

Similarly Natural malefic are

1. Lord of 3,6,11
2. Lord of Kendra when they are benefices

This resulted in sometimes Natural malefic turn into benefices and Natural benefices turn into malefic. Table below show benefic and malefic based on above rules.
